Julius Vysloužil

Profile

Julius Vysloužil was born in Slatinky near Prostějov to innkeeper Josef Vysloužil and his wife Františka, née Tomanová. He began his career as an independent builder in Polská Ostrava (now Slezská Ostrava), living in the Zámostí district. Together with his brother Adolf, a mason based in Frýdlant nad Ostravicí, he also ran a construction business in the area.
In 1921, Vysloužil moved to Opava, settling at Kylešovská Street 858/20. That same year, he and Adolf founded the firm Julius & Adolf Vysloužil, with a headquarters in Opava and a branch in Frýdlant. Julius later lived at Gudrichova Street 1258/4, in an employees’ house for the Union of Czech Agricultural Associations built by his own firm. In 1924, he constructed his own house at Boženy Němcové Street 1357/18, which also became the company’s seat. During this time, he served as a court-appointed expert. In 1930, the brothers ended their business partnership, each establishing his own company – Julius in Opava and Adolf in Frýdlant.
In Opava, Julius built housing for state employees as well as the villa for Miloš Čeleda, designed by Jaroslav Pelán (1933), and the monument in Kylešovice for the Silesian Provincial Firefighters’ Union, featuring a relief of Rudolf Gudrich by sculptor Vincenc Havel (1933). In Frýdlant, the firm carried out the conversion and extension of the Sokol hall (1928, 1930) and built workers’ houses for the local ironworks (1920–1921). In 1938, Julius Vysloužil moved to Brno, returning to Opava after the Second World War.
