About the project

The Opava Architecture Manual (OPAM) is an interactive database that traces the architecture of Opava from the emergence of the modern city to the present day. It presents profiles of architects, builders, and buildings, as well as architectural walks and recommended trails, allowing visitors to explore the city while conveniently accessing information about its architecture. The outputs of this educational project are designed for diverse audiences: local and international visitors, professionals, secondary school and university students, and elementary school pupils. The website is freely accessible and serves as a searchable database of selected sites, architects, and builders, similar to existing manuals elsewhere in the Czech Republic.
The project directly builds upon the Brno Architecture Manual (BAM, https://www.bam.brno.cz ).
Information about the buildings is also available through guided tours (see the News section for details).
The project is supported by the European Union through the National Recovery Plan and the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.

    

Note on addresses:
In this guide, addresses are written in the Czech format, with the street name followed by the building number (e.g. Hradecká Street 4). In some cases, you may see two numbers separated by a slash, for example Hradecká Street 1258/4. The first number is the descriptive number (číslo popisné), unique within the cadastral area and assigned in order of construction. The second is the orientation number (číslo orientační), which follows the sequence along the street. Not all buildings have an orientation number; in that case, only the descriptive number is used. When searching in Google Maps or mapy.cz, enter the address in the local Czech order, for example: Hradecká 4, Opava, or Hradecká 1258/4, Opava.
