The walk highlights the work of architect Otto Reichner, one of the leading figures in shaping Opava’s architecture during the First Czechoslovak Republic. His designs combined principles of decorativism, expressionism, New Objectivity, and modern classicism. Born in Opava, Reichner studied engineering in Vienna and later gained experience in Vienna, Berlin, and Hamburg. After returning to Opava, he supervised the construction of the Breda & Weinstein department store before establishing his own architectural studio, where he focused mainly on residential buildings. Among these are the more traditional villa designed for Bruno Vogel, the New Objectivity–inspired villas for August and Erich Lassmann, or the house designed for Alois Trabitsch. In the city centre, one of his most striking landmarks is the residential and commercial building of the Municipal Savings Bank. Reichner’s best-known achievement, however, is the municipal outdoor swimming pool complex in the city park, a work that brings together elements of modernism, Art Deco, and expressionism in a distinctive synthesis.
